Rough estimates:
| Permits etc: | $27 | |
| Vehicle shuttle: | $44 | |
| Food: | $60 | $900 buys a lot of food at Costco |
| Beverage: | $20 | less if you don’t drink alcohol |
| Fuel: | $53 | |
| Ice: | $7 | |
| Misc Group: | $10 | paper plates, toilet paper, any other group items |
Rough totals per person:
$220, plus whatever other items you have spent on outfitting yourself. This is based on 3 vehicles. … I estimated high in some cases will give us some slack in other areas.
These numbers may go up or down. I would appreciate, to show your commitment, if you could mail me a check for $200 for each person so I don’t have to front all this. If you have a hard time scrapping together the cash but are still committed just give me a heads up I can float you for awhile …
I will keep track of the costs and refunds etc, and should then be able to cover all the expenses to prepare for the trip. At the end of the trip I can email a detailed reckoning of how the money was spent. Keep in mind, an outfitted trip like this on this river usually goes for $1600 per person not including travel …
The food is likely going to be chicken/pork most nights with perhaps steak one night. Does anyone think we should go more gourmet or stay within the confines of this estimate (it will cost more to “go gourmet”) like for example Gourmet could include King Crab if you are into that sort of thing. Anyone who knows how to cook any of this crap please sign up for chef duty (Brian you did a great job on the steak dinner last time). Let me know.

I'd be down for simple meals with maybe a couple more fancy ones. I figured the "non gourmet" would be hot dogs and burgers or chili or something.
We probably need to asses our cooler capacity too. Sounds like a lot of food. So in addition to seats for transport from the Portland area we need cooler room. I'll be able to get probably a couple large coolers in the back of my van. That won't leave much room for gear though. Not sure what Big Red's load situation will be. I could bring the lil' trailer for packed dry bags and that leaves more space for coolers in my van. Lemme know if that'll be necessary as I'll have to pack my bearings again!
Also I think we should put together a required, recommended, nice if you have it and banned items list.
Brian has a 12x6 trailer with the bed of Big Red we might still need another trailer maybe the Burbs?
cooler space is going to be more of a premium on the rafts etc. 1 per big boat that's 5 coolers, 6 if you count two on my cat ...
dry ice works well you can get it at Freddies. Put down a 2" bed of ice then dry ice in paper wrap and then another 2" bed of ice ... the dry ice keeps the other ice from melting. the ice keeps the dry ice from causing freezer burn on your meats. this should be enough to maximimize our cooling with 5 day cooler types. We can pick up more ice on day 3 or 4 at Flying B. Probably want a cooler just with ice only this will be for drinks as you don't want meat drippings in your ice.

Hey Ken I don't know how to update this. Here is streamflow at Middle Fork lodge. This is where its referenced in the flow guides for the river. We are looking for it to settle down to about 2.5 to 3 feet, which it should do.
I updated the "Flow Data" link in the links section to that flow data.
Gourmet meals is part of the fun of the trip! Hot Dogs and hambugers...you'll get gut rot and not gleen much energy from those foods!
Why don't you pack the coolers under the gear in the trailer to save on ice?
Becka...take care of my freind Angie!
Middle Fork Lodge is 1/2 way down the river, flow should be around 2 at Boundry Creek...watch out for rocks!
Freeze your water in bottles for drinking and put in in the cooler..some beer can be frozen also. Not trying to tell you what to do, but just passing along some tips from someone who has done the river many times! Becka
